How to refinish Bois franc floors

Sablage de plancher with bois franc plancher is one of the best plancher finishing options. Bois franc plancher requires cleaning and refinishing on the surface and not on the bare wood. Having moderate-level skills and taking proper advice can let you complete the plancher refinishing in a day or two, depending on the carpet area of your home.

If the flooring has minimal scratches or a dull finish with some basic wear and tear on the surface, then we can repair the damage by simply adding a new coat of varnish on the flooring surface. However, if the floors need a complete makeover, then refinishing the floor with sablage de plancher is an easy task with some basic steps to follow.

Guidance on how to refinish the flooring?

Prepare the room- Ensure that you remove all the furniture, windows, blinds, rugs, and everything from the floor. Cover the vents and electrical switchboards with the painter's tape to prevent the dust from getting into the ducts and electrical boards.

Also, make sure to seal the door with a plastic covering if you plan to refinish the floors room by room.

Repair- Check the base wood for cracks or holes and fills or repair those using wood filler and a spackle knife.  If the floors are heavily damaged, use trowel wood patch filler which is a thinner wood filler that spreads and wraps a larger area.

After applying the filler, let it dry completely.  When it gets dry, wipe the floor with a damp cloth or dusting rag to remove all the dust. After it has dried completely, you can apply sablage de plancher to the floor.

Sanding the floor- You will require the drum or belt floor sander instrument. Also, get proper guidance on using it and start doing it on large plywood until you get comfortable working on the floor. Start moving the sander slowly once the motor starts running.

According to the grit size mentioned by the experts, sand the floor using sandpaper until it gets uniform.

Wipe the dust on the surface after every step.
